Ash Vs. Evil Dead Episode 4 - "Brujo"

The Films Against Humanity Crew pop some Ayahuasca and talk about the trippiest episode of Ash Vs. Evil Dead so far.

We talk about the vast amount of Ash one liners, the beautiful scenery which looks more like Hobbiton than Michigan, Ash's safe space Jacksonville, Florida, Eli the talking lizard and much much more.

Favorite Ashism:

"Shoot first. Think Never." - Chris

"When evil shows up. It blows up." - Adam

"Sweet Shithouse Mouse" - Kindell

"They either end up dead or in my bed." and "I got two hands Brujo. I need two Beers!" - Chase

Best Kill:

bookstore owner decapitation and head smash - Chase

The unlucky motorist that hit the cloud of evil - Chris, Adam, Kindell

Ash Vs Evil Dead Bonus Episode - "Watching the pilot with Evil Dead rookies"

One of the biggest critisms of Ash Vs Evil Dead is that it is only relevant to fans of the original series. We decided to put that to a test and watched the the Pilot Episode "El Jefe" with a bunch of filmmakers from Hack Studios in Austin, TX that somehow have never seen the original movies.

Did it hold up to noobs who have no relationship with the originals?

Final thoughts:

Plot wise, it is pretty easy to jump straight into the show and figure out what's going on. There's a good exposition scene complete with projected scenes from Evil Dead 1 & 2.

The majority of them liked it although they were surprised by the camp factor and the tone. They were expecting more Walking Dead and we're all pleasantly surprised at the lightness and amount of humor.

All that said, the viewing experience will definitely benefit from watching the originals. The amount of Easter eggs adds an extra level of enjoyment.

Everyone who decided to continue the show plan to watch the original trilogy first.

Catch you on the flip flop!

Ash Vs. Evil Dead Episode 3 - "Books From Beyond"

Should we change our podcast name to the Ghost Beaters?

This episode was directed again by Michael J Bassett and written by a different Workaholics writer Sean Clements. Sean Clements has also been working on The Grinder which is one of my favorite new comedies this year and is also known from the Hollywood Handbook podcast.

This episode deals more with the mythology. It’s first time we deal with more of a demon then a Deadite and I have to say the demon design using the shaky cam with the practical creature effect was amazing.

How Badass is the design of Eligos?

Evil Dead Recommendation:

The demon Eligos is played by Ben Fransham who killed it earlier in one of my favorite films of the year What we do in the shadows. He played Petyr who’s basically Nosferatu.

Favorite Ashism:

"At Heart, I'm an Alone Wolf" - Chase

"Pablo, You smooth brown Einstein" - Chris

"Maybe if we have time after we can get some Churros." - Adam

Best Kill:

Not too many options this week but we each found a different one.

Dagger liquefying Kelly's Dad's Face - Chase

Eligos gets smacked with a book - Chris

Lionel gets glass in the face - Adam

We also talk about Bruce Campbell's AMA this week and the flaw with the whole Reddit AMA structure.  Bruce also compared the show to The Walking Dead during the AMA and we talk about the comparison's with Adam who actually worked on The Walking Dead.

Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless were on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week and it's the first time I realized how closely Bruce Campbell and Stephen Colbert resemble each other.

This is also the first episode to receive mixed reviews and while it's probably our least favorite of the three it is still a really solid episode that is elevated with the amazing demon effects and solid performance as always by Ray Santiago.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead Episode 2 - "Bait"

We talk episode 2 of the Starz show Ash Vs Evil Dead "Bait". Could they keep the momentum from the pilot episode especially now without Sam Raimi in the director's chair. The short answer yes.

We try out a couple of new segments including favorite Ashism, best Deadite/death and talk about Bruce Campbell as Reagan in the new Fargo episode.

Favorite Ashism in the episode:

"Good cause I was starting to feel like a real dick" - Chase

"It's not my first Rodeo" - Chris

"Sometimes the Whale needs his bait fish to remind him where he is in the ocean. Or Something like that." - Adam

Best Death Scene in the episode:

Fork in eye. Goodnight Dad. - Chase

Mimi Rogers Decapitation as she's laughing. - Adam

Bottle to the throat to Mr. Roper - Chris

Ash Vs. Evil Dead Episode 1 - "El Jefe"

Ash is Back! Everyones favorite Chainsaw-handed, boom-stick yielding hero Ash is back fighting deadites after he unleashes the evil from the Necronomicon whilst trying to get laid.

In this pilot episode for the pilot episode we give our review and run through the plot. We also feature an exclusive clip from the man himself, Bruce Campbell telling everyone why they should subscribe to Starz to watch the show (recorded at Austin Wizard World Comic Con).
